The 2013 FIBA Africa Championship will be the 27th FIBA Africa Championship. The tournament will be hosted by Ivory Coast from August 20 to 31 2013.

The qualification rounds for The 2013 FIBA Africa Championship happened on several dates between July 8 2012 and February 23 2013, to determine the African national basketball teams that would qualify for the 2013 FIBA Africa Championship. Various teams competed with one another in their respective "zones" for a place in the Championship tournament.Four teams (Ivory Coast, as the host nation and Tunisia, Angola, and Nigeria having finished at the top of 2011FIBA Africa Championship)qualified for the tournament before the qualification rounds happened. Twelve more teams earned slots in the tournament through Qualifying in their respective zones.

The sixteen teams are divided into four groups. Every team progresses to the knockout stage and participates at the 16th Round. The winners will proceed to the quarterfinals to contest the championship. The losing teams in the quarterfinals will play for the places 5–8. The remaining teams will be ranked by their preliminary round results and will play placement games for the places 9 to 16.

The 2011 FIBA Africa Championship was the 26th FIBA Africa Championship. This tournament was originally scheduled to be hosted by Côte d'Ivoire, with games to be contested in Abidjan. However, in view of political calamity in Côte d'Ivoire in 2011, Madagascar was chosen as a substitute to host the tournament.

Tunisia won the title for the first time by defeating Angola 67–56 in the final. Nigeria packed off Cote d'Ivoire to take third place. Along with bronze, Nigeria earned to bid for the last-chance Olympic qualifying tournament.
